60-Year-Old Filipino Arrested in Hong Kong for Pickpocket
Antonio N. Maceda, 60 years old pleaded guilty for attempted theft in Hong Kong court after he was arrested. Maceda claimed as a tourist in Hong Kong and he was trying to stole valuable things at the subway last September 2014.
Antonio Maceda likewise pleaded guilty to violating a deportation order issued against him on 2013 but manage to skip immigration authorities after using false names. Maceda claims that he and his four child are poor. He said he worked as a driver in the Philippines but his salary was not enough to feed his family.
Maceda traveled to Hong Kong through promo fares by airlines offering. He was asked by court on how he can afford travel to Hong Kong, his lawyer said that Maceda's roud-trip fare cost only HK$1,200 (P6981) while he spent HK$1000 for his lodging. He has HK $700 pocket money.
Victim Alexis Lau told investigators that he withdrawn money from nearby ATM for about HK $800 and put it in his pocket. Alexis was in elevator when he noticed Maceda tried to stole his money. He then called the authorities and get Maceda arrested.
Maceda's next hearing is set on February 11.
