Dahil sa Sobra-Sobrang Ani, Libre na Lang Ipinapamigay ang mga Mangga sa Ilocos Sur

In the midst of the rainy day, the province of Ilocos Sur is experiencing a bountiful harvest this season. The small town of Salcedo in the region, which is known for its mangoes, was particularly blessed with a plentiful harvest.

As a matter of fact, there were so many mangoes that some of the residents decided to give it away. Instead of letting it spoil, they hang ripe mangoes on plastic outside of their house, along with the sign that indicates they're giving it for free to their neighbors.

One of the residents took photos of the said hanging mangoes and shared it on social media. The following statement was quoted in a news report from GMA News published on May 30:

"Naisip daw nilang ipamigay na lang ang mga mangga kaysa masira at hindi mapakinabangan. Sa palengke roon, bagsak presyo na ang mangga na mabibili ng sampung piso kada kilo."

Here in Metro Manila, the price of ripe Indian mangoes ranges from Php 75 to Php 80 per kilo. However, back in Ilocos Sur, thanks to the abundance of their harvest, the price of mangoes has dropped significantly.

According to GMA News, the price of mangoes in Ilocos Sur is only Php 10 per kilo! No wonder why the residents have decided to just give away some of their harvests.

But there's also another side to this coin. With the bountiful harvest, there's also the prone of spoilage. Most of the mangoes are not being sold, hence why the residents are just giving it away
