Goodbye Ma Ling! FDA, Ipinagbawal na ang Pagbebenta ng Ma Ling sa Pilipinas

Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recently released a notice claiming that there is a temporary ban for processed pork meat from other countries. The list includes Ma Ling, a pork luncheon meat which is loved by many Filipinos all over the country.

The list includes countries like Vietnam, Zambia, South Africa, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Mongolia, Moldova, and Belgium. Eric Domingo, Officer-in-charge of FDA, claimed that this step was taken to ensure the spread of African swine fever.

"I signed that order. It is a step taken to ensure the food security of our country and make sure that our livestock is not affected by the African swine fever. Yes, Ma Ling is covered by the ban."

In order to ensure that this will be strictly regulated, the FDA has taken steps that also include the public's cooperation. According to Domingo, aside from doing regular inspections, they also encourage the public to report any sighting of the said product:

"The FDA regulatory board will go around and inspect. We also ask the public to report any sightings [of these banned products] to the FDA."

On the other hand, it can be remembered that Raffy Tulfo has also addressed this issue in his program "Wanted sa Radyo." The broadcast journalist revealed that Ma Ling is widely sold in many known stores and malls.
