Simpleng Magsasaka, Natalo ang Makapangyarihang Politiko sa Pagka-Mayor sa Palawan

The recent election results have left many people disappointed. However, there's still hope for some of us. In Palawan, the people are rejoicing after the historic win of a farmer against a clan that has been ruling the place for more than three decades.

For more than thirty years, Narra, Palawan has been ruled by the Demaala political family. This recent election, a farmer named Gerandy Danao dared to change the system by running against the re-electionist Lucena Demaala.

Unlike his opposition, Danao has little power or wealth to compare. He makes a living in goat farming. Just like many people in his area, he also makes a living as a fisherman. In spite of the lack of resources, Danao was determined to make a change.

He campaigned for agri-business for their small town. Danao also promised to build more roads so that transporting products from the farms to the market will be easier. In addition to that, he also wanted to buy new types of machinery for the farmers:

"Kung walang maglalakas ng loob na tumakbo, sino ang lalaban? Kasi ang tagal ng panahon pero wala pa ring pagbabago. Alam ko sa sarili ko na kaya ko ang responsibilidad na ito lalo pa kung para rin sa bayan ko."

It was a steep win. He surpassed the incumbent mayor Lucena by only 1,033 votes. On May 14, Gerandy Danao was proclaimed as the new mayor of Narra after more than 30 years. Thousands of his followers and supporters rejoiced at this new hope for their town.
