Olympic Medalist na si Hidilyz Diaz, Nagmamakaawa ng Tulong sa Social Media
Do you still remember Hidilyn Diaz? In the Summer Olympics of 2016, the female athlete went down in history after winning a silver medal in weightlifting championship. This was Philippines' first-ever Olympic medal after 20 years!
But before that, Hidilyn Diaz has already made a name for herself. She has conquered the women weightlifting sports in the country and was sent to represent the Philippines in several sports game such as the 2006 Asian Games and 2008 Summer Olympics.
Today, the 28-year-old athlete is once again preparing for an upcoming competition. Hidilyz is one of the many athletes who will represent the Philippines in the upcoming 2020 Olympics which will be held in Tokyo, Japan. Months leading up to this event, Hidilyn is already preparing to take home the bacon.
However, no matter how determined you are, it is never truly enough. Our athletes are also in great need of financial support, and Hidilyn Diaz is among them. Earlier this week, the athlete took to social media to ask for help. On Instagram, she was quoted as saying:
"Is it okay to ask sponsorship sa mga private companies towards Tokyo 2020? Hirap na hirap na ako. I need financial support. Sa tingin niyo, okay lang kaya. Nahihiya kasi ako, pero try ko kapalan mukha ko para sa minimithi kong pangarap para sa ating bansa, na maiuwi ang gold medal sa Olympics."
On the other hand, the Philippine Sports Commission claimed that the government has always been supportive of Diaz. In fact, PSC Chairman Butch Ramirez claimed that Diaz is one of the highest paid athletes when it comes to allowance. Apparently, the government also allotted Php 4.5 million for Diaz's training abroad.
