Kapre: The Elemental Tree Dweller of the Philippines
Kapre is another one of the most popular mythological creatures in the Philippines. It was characterized to be as threatening creature that portrays some human physical attributes with much taller height of 7 to 10 feet, more hairy skin and thick beard, brown skin and profound eyes that makes them appear more menacing than ordinary human beings. They are believed to be sheltering in big trees.
Usually, Kapre is depicted as a big creature sitting on a large tree trunk with its huge tobacco that emits smoke that was believed on producing a tempting aroma to attract its human prey’s attention. Kapre is indeed one of the scariest mythological creatures passed through generation from generation in the Philippine folklore. However, mostly they are considered as a just pigment of the wide imagination of human, nevertheless, a growing number of people along the countryside have been reporting sightings of these mythological beasts.
