200 Filipino Workers at Qatar Airways Were Terminated

200 Filipino workers at Qatar Airways were terminated on Monday, March 16.

Philippine Labor Attache to Qatar David Des Dicang confirmed that around 200 Filipino workers served their termination letter effective on March 17 report on ABS-CBN News

Most of the terminated workers were working at the technical department as maintenance staff, engineers and other related jobs.

It is said that these employees were suddenly terminated that gravely surprised them. According to the termination letter handed to these Filipino workers, the reason for the termination was redundancy.

The company promised to provide the end of service benefits to all the terminated workers as they requested them to process their clearance as soon as possible.

Because it was too sudden, some workers even asked the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) to assist them.

Labor Attache Dicang said that the Philippine Embassy in Doha and POLO are already coordinating with the Labor and Social Affairs of Qatar so as with the Qatar Ministry of Administrative Development to assist the terminated workers especially those with ongoing bank loans.

The Ministry of Health in Qatar confirmed on March 16 that they already have 439 positive coronavirus cases. Only 4 out of which recovered from the virus.

Among the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Qatar currently has the highest number of coronavirus cases. They already closed down private and public universities in Doha as a precautionary measure to help prevent the further spread of COVID-19. Only supermarkets and hospitals remained open in the region.
