"Kinaya ni Mama"- Tindera ng Isda, Laking Sakripisyo Upang Maging Doktor ang Anak

For every successful child, there is a supportive parent behind him. For this medicine student, his mother has been his source of strength throughout his journey. At 32 years old, John Nico Ronquillo achieved his dream of becoming a doctor through the sacrifices of his mother.

For more than 20 years now, Aling Nanita has been working as a fish vendor in a public market. The work is tough and the profit is unstable, but despite this, she persevered in order to provide for her son.

After separating from her husband, Aling Nanita made the brave choice of raising her son all by herself. It was not easy to become a single mother, but for the sake of her son, she willingly endured the hardships.

"Kahit na sumusuko na ko sa pag-aaral ko, nandyan siya para sabihin sakin na tuloy lang kaming dalawa. Simula pa nung bata hanggang ngayon lumaki na ko na ganito, hanggang sa naging doktor ako, hindi niya ko binitawan."

There are times when Aling Nanita's earnings are not enough for the two of them. In order to help his mother, Nico juggles his studies and work. This delayed him for two years, but eventually, he still managed to graduate in medicine.

Today, he is now one step closer to becoming a doctor. Now, all Nico is waiting for is to pass the bar exam so he can finally be a licensed physician.

Even though he has already come a long way, Nico still looks back on his humble beginnings. He feels deeply indebted to his mother for her sacrifices and love. Know more about their inspirational story in this video below:
