More Sex Makes Men More Likely to Believe in God
According to a study conducted by Duke University's researchers, in North Carolina, more sex can actually makes men more likely to believe in God as it inspires spirituality and religious beliefs.
Researchers said that sex produces what do we called "love hormone" oxytocin that could promotes bonding and divinity for men.
Commonly, oxytocin stimulated during sex, giving birth and breastfeeding.
It is a hormone that acts on organs in the body and messenger in the brain, controlling the overall function of reproductive system, including childbirth and lactation, and aspects of human behavior.
They also claimed that having more sex could increase belief in God and religion.
Men were reported to be posing a greater sense of spirituality after having sex and receiving oxytocin.
According to Duke Today, official website of the university lead by author Patty Van Cappellen, a social psychologist, said that spirituality and meditation have each been linked to health and well-being in previous research.
"We were interested in understanding biological factors that may enhance those spiritual experiences," she added.
The study tests the chemical reaction to men by giving them the hormone and placebo for the others.
After getting through, they found out that men who took dozen of the love hormones expressed their feeling of faith, gratitude, positive emotions and unity as part of their lives.
However the effect doesn't seems equal because men who have different gene like CD38 had possessed much more amplified response.
Meanwhile, according to a published study in Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience, women produce more oxytocin than men, however the University only focuses on men and hasn't studied the female yet.
Dr Van Cappellen said that another study should be carried out with women because she claimed that the chemical operates differently between genders.
"Spirituality is complex and affected by many factors. However, oxytocin does seem to affect how we perceive the world and what we believe. Oxytocin's effects on women's spirituality still needs to be investigated." she added.
