VSMMC Asks For Help From Other Hospitals Amid COVID Fight
The Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) asked other hospitals in Central Visayas for help amid its fight against COVID-19.
In a Facebook post Thursday night, May 7, 2020, the VSMMC said:
According to Facebook user Mark Deopante, other hospitals don't entertain consultation or emergency patients thus the high influx of patients at VSMMC.
Ken Grafe Basubas, who also commented on the post, described VSMMC as a "punching bag" as, according to her, most of the patients rushed to VSMMC are referrals from other hospitals.
"The hospital seems to now become the epicenter of the possible COVID patients," she said. "I hope other hospitals will do their jobs too most especially sa mga private hospitals who most all have the possible facilities to cater patients."
VSMMC is a general tertiary medical center teaching training medical facility in Cebu owned by the Philippine Government.
It received a P30 million donation from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) in April 2020. The amount is intended to purchase personal protective equipment (PPE) and additional equipment for its Sub-National Laboratory which became operational last March.

FOR THE AWARENESS OF THE PUBLIC
Taken earlier this evening, a throng of ambulances wait outside our Emergency Department (ED). Due to the influx of Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) cases in the light of Covid-19 pandemic on top of the continuation of the regular ED services, we have set up protocols to stop cross infections, which may unintentionally affect the flow of incoming patients, notwithstanding the increasing statistics of Covid-19 positive cases. We regret that patients may have to wait inside ambulances before they are catered into the ED.
We apologize to our patients and their families if such has caused them undue anxiety and inconvenience and humbly seek for their understanding and cooperation.
We assure the public that VSMMC is exhausting all possible means to be responsive to our patients' needs. At this point, we would also like to request for the assistance of other hospitals and healthcare facilities to cater to whatever cases they can to prevent overwhelming our ED.
A humble and gentle reminder to our partner healthcare institutions, saying "NO" directly to these patients without ensuring a concrete Contingency Plan set is not advisable at this time of pandemic. There are ways and means. We need each other.
