HOW TO: Use DITO SIM On Unlisted Phone
DITO announced that their SIM card only works with compatible mobile phones. Here's how to use a DITO SIM on unlisted devices.
The Philippines' 3rd telco DITO officially launched commercially in selected areas in Cebu and Davao provinces last Monday, March 8, 2021.
Potential customers flocked to partner stores only to find out that they cannot purchase a DITO SIM card without buying a compatible phone. The reason is that DITO SIM cards only works with VoLTE (Voice over LTE) enabled handsets.
DITO released a list of compatible devices as of March 8, 2021:
On its official website, DITO explains:
The DITO SIM card only works with select DITO compatible VoLTE mobile phones as DITO uses next generation technology. In order to fully maximize the DITO experience, we recommend to use only compatible mobile phones.
Don't worry if your smartphone is not on the list. There's a workaround for that. You just have to do the following steps:
- Edit your APN settings;
- Turn on VoLTE in your handset.
Settings > Mobile network > Mobile data > Turn on 4G or 5G > Turn on VoLTE calls
Tap Access Point Names (APNs) > Tap the 3-button navigation and select New APN
- NAME: Dito Telecom
- APN: ctnet
- USERNAME: ctwap@mycdma.cn
- PASSWORD: vnet.mobi
- Save
Please note that all other settings should not be changed.
A customer who was able to avail of the new DITO SIM card posted on Facebook that he was able to use it on an iPhone (iOS device) and Vivo smartphone (Android) which are not listed on DITO's compatible handsets.
