KATE VALDEZ RENEWS CONTRACT AS A KAPUSO, WANTS TO TRY COMEDY AND HOSTING
KATE VALDEZ is so happy that GMA Network just renewed her contract as a Kapuso.
“I can never thank GMA Artist Center enough for their trust in me,” she says at her contract signing.
“When I first signed up with them, I was so scared na baka hindi ko kayaning maging isang aktor. But I’m now thankful for the chance they gave me, for the good roles they assigned to me in such memorable shows as ‘Onanay’ and ‘Anak ni Waray vs. Anak ni Biday’.
"I really grew both as a person and as a performer. Mas nakilala ko ang sarili at ang kakayahan ko kung ano makakaya kong gawin. For that, I will forever be grateful po.”
Senior VP for Entertainment Lilybeth Rasonable tells Kate she remembers when she first saw her.
"I remember several years ago when we first saw your audition video. The minute we saw you, we said, 'We want this girl.' You became a part of the Artist Center, and I am glad to say, I thank God hindi kami nagkamali sa pagsabi na we want you in GMA.
"We're proud of what you have accomplished throughout the years. We are all sure that you will acomplish more because you are such a talented artist. Stay humble and keep on being an inspiration to others."
Kate is now a member of the cast of the new Afternoon Prime show, “Love on Air”, with Gabbi Garcia and Khalil Ramos.
“I love the character I play, Joan, a DJ, as she is very jolly. First time ko to play a DJ and I am happy kasi masayahin siya at malapit yun sa personality ko.
"Malayo siya sa kontrabida roles na ginampanan ko lately. Most of my scenes are with Khalil who plays DJ Jojo.”
She says she appreciates all the roles GMA has given her since she started.
“Mula pa sa first role na ibinigay nila sa akin in ‘Destiny Rose’ as sister ni Ken Chan, I would say they really gave me the opportunity to grow as an actor. I’m just so blessed that they give their trust to me in playing a variety of roles.
"Nang pumasok ako rito, wala akong game plan or anything. I just tried my luck sa audition and they signed me up to a contract. I was actually asking myself, ano kaya ang nakita nila sa akin?”
She’s just initially happy she was able to get in and be a Kapuso.
“But since then, I’d like to think that I’ve grown in my craft. I took a lot of acting workshops and I’m ready to tackle more challenging roles kasi I now have a file of various emotions na puede kong paghugutan in doing all kinds of scenes.”
What else would she like to try doing in the future?
“After doing a lot of dramas, I also want to try doing comedy. I want to make people laugh, like I did when I did a guesting in ‘Dear Uge’. Also, I want to try hosting. I think makakaya ko naman.”
Who would she like to work with among Kapuso stars in the future?
“Siempre, I like to work with all of them. I leave it all up to GMA kung kanino nila ako gusto isama. Basta I welcome everyone as I know may matututuhan ako from all of them. At this time na may pandemic, I am just so happy that I continue to get good assignments coming my way.”
