Netflix reveals massive anime lineup for 2022

Netflix has announced 40 anime titles this year at the AnimeJapan 2022 event.

This diverse slate of genres should entice and delight both die-hard anime fans and those new to the online video streaming platform.


Here are some of the anime titles, along with their release date, showcased by Netflix at the AnimeJapan stage event:

"Kotaro Lives Alone" is a heartwarming comedy anime series. It follows Kotaro, a 4-year old boy living on his own, who moves into the apartment next door to Shin Karino, a manga artist.

Bathhouse comedy series "Thermae Romae Novae" follows Lucius, a young man attempting to make a living as a bathhouse designer in the Roman Empire who accidentally time travels between ancient Rome and modern-day Japan, incorporating Japanese bath culture into the designs of his own Roman thermae.

"Kakegurui" is an anime series set at the illustrious Hyakkaou Private Academy, where gambling is used to control the hierarchy. Yumeko Jabami and her friend Mary Saotome gamble against the Hyakkaou student council. This popular title has been adapted into two anime series: "Kakegurui" in 2017 and "Kakegurui xx" in 2019, and it has garnered passionate fans not only in Japan but also throughout the world. Finally, the highly anticipated new series "Kakegurui Twin" is in development, with a worldwide premiere scheduled for August 2022 exclusively on Netflix. This series chronicles Mary Saotome's gambling exploits a year prior to Yumeko Jabami's transfer to her school. The story begins with Mary Saotome, a typical high school student.

The Seven Deadly Sins (original work: Nakaba Suzuki) is getting an anime spin-off film, which is divided into two parts. Suzuki will write the screenplay for this film. The story will follow Tristan, the son of Meliodas, and Elizabeth, the protagonists of The Seven Deadly Sins. Tristan inherits the Goddess Clan's power and is capable of healing others' wounds and injuries, but he frequently injures others due to his inability to control his Demon Clan's power. To protect his family, Tristan travels to Edinburgh Castle, where he meets a slew of new friends.

Netflix's anime creative director Kohei Obara said more than half of its global subscribers and nearly 90% of its Japanese members had watched anime on the service in 2021. Moreover, the OTT giant has no plans of slowing down.
