Netflix to release 'Tekken: Bloodline' anime series in 2022

Netflix has unveiled that "Tekken: Bloodline," a new anime series based on the Tekken fighting games, is set to release in 2022.

The online video subscription streaming service also revealed a one-and-a-half-minute teaser trailer for Tekken Bloodline. No specific release date or episode count is listed, but the summary indicates that the series will center on Jin Kazama.

According to the trailer, the series seems to adhere to the established Tekken story. Jin trains with his mother, Jun Kazama, and defeats a few bullies but is forced to flee an attack by the giant Ogre. He then seeks further training from his grandfather Heihachi Mishima. Jin's vengeful desire eventually led him to the King of Iron Fist Tournament.

The trailer also shows brief glimpses of other iconic Tekken characters, such as Kazuya Mishima, Paul Phoenix, and King.

Tekken was one of the first fighting video games to incorporate 3D animation in 1994, and subsequent games added the ability to move away or toward the camera rather than vertically across the screen, creating the illusion of true 3D environments.

Tekken, like Mortal Kombat, has ventured into a variety of non-video game mediums throughout its 28-year history. Its first anime was titled Tekken: The Motion Picture (1998), a two-part series directed by Kunihisa Sugishima and animated by Studio Deen, which adapted Kazuya's revenge mission against Heihachi.

Tekken: Blood Vengeance is a 2011 computer-animated anime film that serves as a prequel to Tekken 5 (2005) and Tekken 6 (2007). Moreover, there was a 2009 live-action adaptation, Kazuya's Revenge, which was followed by a 2014 prequel.

Tekken: Bloodline will join Netflix's ever-growing list of original anime series. Some Netflix adaptations are Trese, DOTA Dragon's Blood, Arcane, Resident Evil, Castlevania, Dragon's Dogma, Cuphead, Assassin's Creed, and The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf.
