Motorcycle Rider Robbed, Fatally Stabbed by Passenger in Caloocan City
CALOOCAN CITY — A motorcycle rider lost his life after he was allegedly robbed and stabbed with an ice pick by his own passenger in Barangay 20, Kaunlaran Village, Caloocan City, in the early hours of Tuesday.
According to police reports, the 46-year-old victim had just completed transporting a passenger at around 1:30 a.m. when the suspect suddenly attacked him from behind, repeatedly stabbing him with an ice pick before taking off with the victim's motorcycle.
Concerned residents immediately responded and rushed the victim to the hospital. However, he later succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities said witnesses attempted to stop the suspect, but he reportedly threatened them before escaping using the stolen motorcycle.
Several hours after the incident, the same suspect allegedly committed another robbery in neighboring Malabon City by stealing a cellphone. Local residents chased the suspect until he was cornered in a dead-end alley, allowing responding police officers to arrest him.
Police recovered the stolen motorcycle and the ice pick believed to have been used in the fatal attack.
Initial investigation revealed that the 43-year-old suspect may have been involved in similar crimes targeting motorcycle riders. He is now under police custody and is expected to face charges for carnapping, robbery, and homicide.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident and are urging the public, particularly motorcycle riders, to remain vigilant and immediately report suspicious passengers or activities to the police.
