OFW, Nagreklamo Matapos Kumpiskahin ang mga De-Latang Pasalubong Niya sa Airport
Homecoming day is, without a doubt, the most anticipated moment in an overseas Filipino worker's life. Weeks before coming home, OFWs are already preparing their 'pasalubong' or 'balikbayan box.' However, all of that still needs to be inspected by the Bureau of Customs.
Recently, a domestic helper from Hong Kong encountered a dilemma upon coming home. Norma Agtarap was excited to see her family, however, her homecoming was dampened when some of the goods she was bringing were confiscated in Clark Airport in Pampanga.
During her interview with Raffy Tulfo, Agtarap claimed that she brought almost 30 pieces of canned goods from Hong Kong. However, the airport staff confiscated all of the meat products, claiming it was banned in the Philippines.
In order to get the airport's side, Raffy Tulfo contacted Jaime Melo, president, and CEO of Clark Airport. According to Melo, there's a reason behind this airport policy.
Meat products, processed or non-processed, are not allowed to be imported in the Philippines. This holds true for many countries, but this regulation is strictly observed especially if the products are coming from China. Since the OFW is from Hong Kong, her canned products were promptly confiscated.
According to Melo, this regulation aims to protect people from different virus that can be spread in meat, like African swine fever. However, the OFW claimed that they were not informed about this regulation beforehand.
How do you think will Raffy Tulfo resolve this matter? Will the OFW finally get her canned goods back? Watch the rest of the story in this video below:
