PLDT Schedules 5-day 'Emergency' Maintenance
PLDT, Inc., one of the major telecommunications providers in the Philippines, has scheduled a five-day 'emergency' maintenance.
In a network advisory posted online Wednesday, the company said that this is due to the maintenance activities to be conducted on the international submarine cable system.
"The operator of the international trans-Pacific submarine cable system, Asia-America Gateway (AAG), has informed PLDT that emergency maintenance activities will be conducted on their submarine cables from Friday, 25 September 2020 8:00a.m. to Wednesday, 30 September 2020 5:00a.m. (Philippine Standard Time)," the notice reads.
PLDT utilizes AAG's international cable systems, a submarine coaxial cable linking the country and mainland U.S.A. via Hawaii.
The company assured the public that the emergency maintenance will have minimal impact to subcribers.
"Measures have been put in place to minimize this activity's impact and to ensure that services remain available to PLDT and Smart subscribers," the telco explained. "We shall provide regular updates as the operation progresses, we thank you for your understanding."
Last Monday, September 21st, PLDT reported "degradation or loss of call, text, and data services among subscribers in Mindanao."
The service disruption went on for several hours at mid-day as several cuts of PLDT's fiber optic transmission lines have been discovered.
The fiber cut, PLDT said, was caused by "construction work being done by contractors of other telecom providers and road widening projects."
